"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest...For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." (See Matthew 11:28-30 NIV; https://www.bible.com/bible/111/MAT.11.28-30.NIV). These words are some of the few words from our Lord Jesus that I can remember. Unfortunately in the past I can only remember the first and last line. I forget the lines in between in particular, "Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls." That instruction that says "Take my yoke upon you and learn from me..." is repeated by Jesus over and over again in various forms...
"Whoever does not take up their cross and follow me is not worthy of me." (Matthew 10:38 NIV; https://www.bible.com/en-GB/bible/111/mat.10.38)
"Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me." (John 12:26 NIV; https://www.bible.com/en-GB/bible/111/jhn.12.26)
'Then he said to them all: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.' (Luke 9:23 NIV; https://www.bible.com/en-GB/bible/111/luk.9.23)
'When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the
world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the
light of life.”'(John 8:12 NIV; https://www.bible.com/en-GB/bible/111/jhn.8.12)
"Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one
who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and
show myself to them.” (John 14:21 NIV; https://www.bible.com/en-GB/bible/111/jhn.14.21)
"You are my friends if you do what I command." (John 15:14 NIV; https://www.bible.com/en-GB/bible/111/jhn.15.14)
There are many times that the good news message is truncated into: "Jesus is your friend." And nothing follows.
That he will love you unconditionally without any conditions as long as you say he is your saviour. We forget that the Lord Jesus said "follow me."
Whenever I am conflicted about my decisions I forget that I should pray and ask the Holy Spirit what Jesus would have done in such situations. I wish I have realised this sooner.
